Dogs4sale Updates
BSL
(Breed Specific Legislation) needs to be rethought!
You may or may not have heard of Lennox. Lennox
was seized from his owners approximately 2 years ago by the Belfast
City Council in Northern Ireland under breed specific legislation.
Lennox had done no wrong, had not attacked anyone, had not threatened
anyone. Lennox was seized because he looked like a "pit bull
type". Lennox's owners have been fighting legally to save their
pet who has been condemned to death.
Here is some information about the campaign
to save Lennox here:
http://www.savelennox.co.uk/
Lennox is due to be PTS (put to sleep) on Tuesday
10 July 2012.
An animal behaviourist from the United States
has offered to take Lennox to the United States to live with her
and has offered to pay all associated costs to save his life. Sadly
the legal system have refused this request.
Lennox's owners have asked to visit him to
say farewell to their beloved family member and their request has
been refused. This raises some concerns about the state of Lennox's
health and how he has been treated as repeated requests to visit
him have been denied.
Sadly, Breed Specific Legislation has infiltrated
our shores with the story of two dogs, Bear and Kooda, being put
to sleep in Victoria, Australia approximately two weeks ago purely
because they looked like "put bull mixes". These dogs
had their genetics proven in court which showed their parents did
not contain any pit bull breeds but they were still euthanised by
the council.
See their story here:
http://www.causes.com/causes/644857-let-s-turn-facebook-orange-for-animal-cruelty-awareness/actions/1661583
"Breed Specific Legislation" is condemning
an animal purely because of the way it looks. If it were applied
to humans, it would be a form of discimination.

What's On?
Forums
Health
Forum - primary focus of this list will be on issues such as vaccination
and the risk/benefit ratio.
This list is intended
for dog owners in Australia who are concerned about various issues
and management factors that impact on the health, wellbeing and
behavior of our dogs.
Whether your dog is the result
of selective mating or a rescued mutt is not relevant. On this list
we base ‘value’ on the unique human/dog bond that develops from
shared quality companionship.
The primary focus of this list
will be on issues such as vaccination and the risk/benefit ratio
of other commonly recommended treatments and prophylactics. However,
other topics will also be discussed and these include factors like
feeding, ‘holistic’ care, traveling and holidaying with your dog,
legislation and by-laws, boarding, socializing and training.
The aim of this list is for participants
to network and to share their experiences and their views as well
as posting credible (reference sourced) information from elsewhere.
It is envisaged there will be
a spirit of goodwill and support flowing through this Group and
although it is a serious list, good humor and occasional Off Topic
diversions will always be welcomed.
Flaming will not be tolerated.
All references to products in which a member has a personal commercial
interest must be limited to it being included in the signature block
when posting to the list.
Please note Yahoo generates the
advertising on this site, and we do not necessarily recommend the
products being promoted.
If members choose to act on information,
tips or advice from any other member/s it is entirely their own
responsibility. It is recommended that everyone should consult with
an appropriately qualified practitioner to discuss any proposed
changes to the care they give their dog.
