For Puppy Buyers
I'm interested in getting a dog. Where do
I start?
A dog is a lifetime commitment of love, attention and care. There
are many breeds to choose from and many sources to consider. The
first thing you may want to consider is your lifestyle. Do you expect
to take your dog running every day? If so, a small lap dog may not
be for you. Are you relatively sedentary? An active breed may not
be for you. Spend some time and get to know breed characteristics.
Then you can look for a breed that will best fit into you lifestyle.
Okay, I've chosen a breed; now what?
Do you want an adult dog or a puppy? There are advantages to either
choice. Are you willing to consider adopting a dog such as a Greyhound
or another breed or a rescue dog. Many dogs need a second chance
with that special someone. Are you interested in a dog to show or
compete with or are you just looking for a companion? Once you've
answered these questions you're ready to move on.
Where should I look for a dog?
First: A pet shop would not be the first choice, why? No reputable
breeder will place their dogs in pet shops. Pet shop dogs are usually
produced by Backyard matings or puppy mills, which do not pay adequate
attention to issues of health, temperament and genetic soundness.
On Dogs4Sale.com.au home page go to breeds
and then click on the breed of your choice. You can then either click
on Puppies4Sale to see if any are available or you can contact breeders
on the breeders list to see what they have to offer you. If you are
interested in a rescue dog, check out the rescue
organisations, you may find the breed of your choice there.
Why should I go to a Breeder? Why not go
to puppies down the block or the ones at the markets?
Well, you can, but before you do, please think about these questions.
Has the Mother & Father of the puppies been tested for any genetic
problems that may be a problem with that breed? Is the owner of
the puppies willing to provide a written contract, which covers
health, temperament & quality? Will the owner take back the
puppy if something goes wrong? Is the owner a Member of the Canine
Control Council or Kennel Club? Do they have a breeder Prefix? These
are things that reputable breeders do. Reputable breeders will work
with you to find the right dog for you, and will continue to help
you with any questions you have for the life of the dog. Also their
prices are very reasonable and even if they are a bit more you are
getting a much better guarantee, more than likely the dogs breed
papers and the on going help for the rest of the dogs life.
Okay, I've picked a breed and want to go
to a breeder. Now what?
Well you are ready to go to Dogs4Sale.com.au
and begin your search.
