What happens?
Field Trials test a dog's ability to perform the natural hunting
instincts. There are three forms of field trial for the various
types of hunting dogs. There are field trials for the Pointing and
Setting Breeds, Utility Gundogs and for Spaniels and Retrievers.
Spaniel and Retriever Field Trials are conducted in the field, dogs
are required to hunt, flush and retrieve. In Pointer and Setter
Field Trials dogs are assessed on their ability to find and point.
The Utility Gundog Field Trials require hunting, pointing and retrieving.
Who
can compete? The Gun Dog Breeds, this is normally
restricted to breeds registered with the canine council in the group
3 ‘Gun Dog' Group.
Why
compete? To bring out the natural instinct of the
dog. It provides both owner and dog a great bond and companionship
whilst training and you will find the joy that you and your dog
can achieve from understanding each other and working together.
