Zico is the most highly credentialed Malinois male ever imported into Australia. He is a very serious dog, with excellent, proven working drives, and possesses an unusually robust and self-confident disposition. He is one of only two Malinois in Australia to have passed the RAAF test for use as a stud dog for producing Military Working Dogs (MWD). The consequent excellent results from several RAAF litters then prompted the Defence Forces to purchase frozen semen from Zico, to enable them to utilise his many impressive strengths as a stud dog for the years to come.

Bred in the purple, Zico is considered one of the very best sons of the legendary Turcodos v.d. Duvetorre (NB: During the World Championship for Malinois in Homburg, the Trial Helpers awarded a trophy to the dog they considered the best one – the winner was Turcodos, the sire of Zico! Turcodos is also the sire of Europe’s current 2007 FMBB World Champion, Qenny Ot Vitosha.) Zico’s dam, Sanka v.d. Berlex-Hoeve, IPO3, was a five-time contender at the World Championships herself, and to top it off, Sanka is also a daughter of another famous FCI World Champion, Lex! Zico’s phenotype and genotype is consistently true to that of his world famous ancestors*, and he consistently produces that type! At only three years of age, Zico placed 3rd at the FCI World Championship with the same impressive scores of 291 points as the two highest placed dogs. As rising young star he continued to impress by placing 3rd at the Belgium Malinois Championship, followed by 2nd place at the Belgium Open Championship - once again equalling the winner in points!

One of Germany’s foremost working dog experts, Jurgen Rixen, heaped the highest praise on Zico in his report on the protection work from the FCI World Championship in Germany’s leading working dog magazine, “Der Gebrauchshund”. Other leading judges, helpers, dogsport fans, and the numerous breeders who have used him in several countries have also consistently praised this marvellous male for his many outstanding qualities.

Reputable Malinois breeders who’ve experienced Zico’s excellent progeny in Europe and USA first-hand, have now followed up on his enormous value as a stud dog by requesting frozen semen exports out of Australia. The result of his first internationally conceived AI litter was 14 puppies, whelped at the well-known Danish Malinois Kennel, Daneskjold.

The consistency of Zico’s valuable genetic background is further underlined by the fact that five out of his six siblings also proved their outstanding qualities by passing their SchH 3/IPO3 with top scores. Here in Australia, Zico’s litter sister, Zita v.d. Berlex-Hoeve (imp Belgium) SchH3, IPO3, produced her first Australian-born (iiu) litter last year. (NB: Sire of her iiu litter being Zico’s half brother & 3 times World Champion, Yagus v.d. Duvetorre, IPO 3.) After extensive testing of Zita and her litter the RAAF purchased a male puppy, which today is turning heads! The RAAF’s satisfaction with their first purchase resulted in their purchasing four more puppies from Zita’s most recent litter, again after extensive testing of the dam and her litter.
