Temperament: Loyal and loving companion; watchful of strangers and fearless toward aggressors.

Characteristics: Lively and self-confident, carrying itself with a comic seriousness.

Recommended for: Anyone, Elderly, Families, very small children must be well suppervised when handling this Toy Dog, as they are very little puppies.

Weight: 3-4 kg (6 1/2 - 9 lbs)

Colour: Black. Grey shading permissible.

Coat: Correct coat needs no trimming, rough and harsh in texture, short and dense on some parts of body and shaggy on others. In particular, longer on shoulders, neck and head where loose shaggy hair stands away from skull framing eyes, nose and chin giving desired monkey-like appearance.

General Appearance: Rough coated, sturdy in build with a mischievous monkey-like expression. Although small, not delicate in any way.

The Affenpinscher is a member of the toy family originated in Germany several centuries ago, In German, 'affe' means monkey, and the apish expression is the hallmark of these animals. They are the smallest of the pinschers and schnauzers. They are devoted to their families and are a very alert dog, which makes them an excellent watchdog.
They are very intelligent which makes them easy to train, you must make sure that they know who the boss is though, other wise they may end up running the home.

Grooming- a brushing once or twice a week will remove the dead hair and keep the coat free of knots.

Exercise- regular exercise is needed to keep them fit and happy, such as daily walks and off lead runs.

Health- Healthy breed but some need special care with their teeth and some can be susceptible to eye ulcers and infections.
